West Java Pilkada Debate 2024: Paslon Highlights Culture And Creative Industry As Pillars Of Progress

Cirebon The public debate for the second round of the 2024 West Java Pilkada was lively in Cirebon, Saturday night, November 16. Carrying the theme Innovative Cultivation', the four pairs of candidates (paslon) for the Governor and Deputy Governor of West Java explained their commitment to advancing culture and creative industries as the foundation of regional development.

This candidate pair emphasizes the importance of preserving the traditions of the people of West Java, especially in rural areas. Wearing the typical Cirebon Mega Mendung batik as a symbol of culture, they affirm their commitment to local cultural heritage.

"We are wearing the typical Cirebon Mega Mendung batik tonight as a symbol of respect for local culture," said Gitalis Dwinatrina, asserting that local traditions must be maintained while remaining relevant to the times.

For this couple, culture is not only preserved, but is also transformed into part of an economic-valued creative industry. Ronal Surapradja, who wears his own work clothes, stated that culture can generate profits without losing its traditional essence.

"The shirt I use is the work of my own. That is, culture can become an industry. Culture is sustainable, the industry produces profits," said Ronal.

This candidate pair highlights the importance of strengthening the attractiveness of local culture, such as Mega Mendung batik which has become the identity of the people of Cirebon. According to them, preserving local culture can improve the image of West Java at the national and international levels.

Cirebon is a batik city with a well-known Trusmi area. This Mega Mendung batik has peculiarities that we need to continue to maintain," said Ahmad Syaikhu.

The couple emphasized the need to combine four cultural elements 'language, food, fashion, and art' with digital technology. They are committed to expanding market access to cultural products through digital promotion.

"These four elements must get space in the digital era so that traditional community products can be accessed more widely and provide economic benefits," said Dedi Mulyadi.

West Java KPU member, Hedi Ardia, said that this public debate is expected to be a guide for the community in choosing leaders who have a concrete vision regarding the preservation of culture and innovation.

"This theme explores the visions and ideas of candidate pairs related to innovative culture, religious tolerance, the environment, and innovation," he said.

The four candidate pairs agree that the preservation of culture and development of the creative industry can go hand in hand, strengthen West Java's identity while improving the welfare of its people.
