JAKARTA - An employee of the United States Government has been charged with leaking classified national defense information, according to federal court records opened on Wednesday.
The indictment against Asif William has two counts of deliberately spreading classified information, not providing details about the nature of the leak.
However, it said the leak occurred on or around October 17th. At that time, the pro-Iran Telegram account called "Middle East Spectator" published what appeared to be a pair of documents produced by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (GEOINT) which shared information about Israel's preparations to attack Iran.
According to the indictment, dated November 7, investigators believe the leak occurred in Cambodia.
Rahman was arrested in Cambodia on November 12 and is expected to appear in federal court in Guam on November 14, before being moved to trial in East Virginia District.
Intelligence information in the document is based on satellite imagery on October 15-16.
