JAKARTA The government asks digital platform companies to immediately realize delayed cooperation with press companies. This step is expected to encourage the creation of a healthy media business and quality journalism, in line with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 32 of 2024 concerning the Responsibility of Digital Platform Companies to Support Quality Journalism (KTP2JB).

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Nezar Patria, emphasized the importance of the continuation of the cooperation, especially regarding programs that have been delayed or have just been partially realized. "If a digital platform company can continue the pending cooperation or complete the remaining obligations, this could be a year-end gift for a press company," said Nezar in a meeting with the KTP2JB Committee at the Komdigi Building, Monday, November 11.

The KTP2JB Committee led by Dr. Suprapto Sastro Atmojo has completed the draft Guideline for the Implementation of Supervision for the Obligation of Digital Platform Companies for Quality Journalism, which refers to Presidential Decree No. 32/2024. This draft is expected to be a reference for digital platform companies in fulfilling their responsibilities to support quality journalism.

The guidelines also include technical guidelines related to cooperation between digital and media platform companies, as well as supervision and facilitation of the implementation of platform obligations. With this guide, Nezar Patria hopes that digital platform companies can immediately resume negotiations and realize pending cooperation programs.

Suprapto Sastro Atmojo added that the guide document did not exceed the authority stipulated in the Presidential Decree, in order to ensure proper supervision of the fulfillment of the obligations of digital platform companies. "This guide will be a guide for the committee in carrying out its supervisory and facilitation functions," Suprapto said.

Since its establishment in August 2024, the KTP2JB Committee has held a dialogue with various representatives of press companies and digital platforms. The Committee has also conducted Presidential Decree No. 32/2024 socialization to a number of media and digital platforms throughout Indonesia, including Meta and TikTok Indonesia, which have opened up space for further meetings on more concrete cooperation.
