KPU: Central Java Gubernatorial Election Prone To Pilkada

JAKARTA - Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Mochammad Afifuddin revealed that Central Java is a vulnerable point for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections due to intense competition between pairs of regional head candidates.

"As yesterday's last coordination meeting, for example, there are vulnerabilities related to the very tight competition of candidates. For example, Central Java is considered lively," said Afifuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 9.

The Central Java Pilkada was followed by two pairs of candidates for regional head, namely number 1 Andika Perkasa-Hendrar Prihadi and serial number 2 Ahmad Luthfi-Taj Yasin.

Not only in Central Java, Afifuddin said that Papua's territory is also a point prone to regional elections in terms of security.

"Then there are vulnerabilities in terms of territory and also security facilities, for example in Papuan areas, especially in new autonomous areas, namely Central Papua, South Papua, Main Papua, Southwest Papua, West Papua and Papua Mountains," he said.

Afifuddin explained that mapping vulnerable areas is a step to anticipate the occurrence of simultaneous 2024 Pilkada disturbances.

In addition, the KPU is also very intense in coordinating with TNI and Polri officers for the sustainability of safe regional elections, including matters of logistics distribution to various regions.

"Yes, we have paid attention to identified areas prone to conflict, identified areas prone to occurrence, yes, riots and so on, especially with the police, security forces," said Afifuddin.
