PAPUA - The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) conducted an investigation regarding the evacuation of passengers on Trigana Air's Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
The plane with flight code IL237 carrying 121 people had emitted sparks when it was about to fly to Wamena until passengers opened an emergency window for evacuation.
KNKT Aviation Expert in Papua Norbert Tunyan said that his party had collected data, especially related to evacuations. This evacuation investigation is due to the potential injury for passengers during the evacuation.
"Investigations are still being carried out and the results will be reported to the NTSC," Norbert Tunyan told ANTARA in Sentani, Friday, November 8.
Previously, Area Manager of PT Trigana Air Papua Irwan Rochendi said that the incident that occurred on Tuesday at around 11.20 WIT began when passengers panicked because there was a fire outside the bottom of the plane so they opened an emergency window and tried to save themselves.
According to him, the action of passengers opening the emergency window was before the crew gave a signal.
"Maybe because they panicked they immediately opened an emergency window to save themselves," said Irwan.
In this incident, he continued, four victims suffered minor injuries. PT Trigana Air ensures that the Sentani-Wamena flight service remains normal.
