Riau Police's Food Security Initiative To Realize Indonesia's Gold Vision

PeKANBARU - Riau Police launched the Food Swasembada Security program, which is a concrete step in supporting the vision of Indonesia Gold 2045 and strengthening national food security. This program is carried out with all levels of the police and the TNI in Riau, according to the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in supporting its eight priority programs, including food security.

Through strategic efforts such as corn planting and petin fish cultivation, the Riau Police hopes to make a significant contribution to food availability and support food security at the local and national levels.

Riau Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Iqbal, said that this program was attended by 12 Polres in the Riau region in collaboration with Forkopimda and various relevant stakeholders. "One of our concrete steps is planting corn on an area of 20 hectares, which is spread over several points," said the Riau Police Chief at the launch of the program at the Riau Police SPN, Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Food Security Target

In the early stages, about 60 kilograms of flat corn seeds and 45 kilograms of Bonanza sweet corn seeds were distributed on the prepared land. In addition, the Riau Police also planted 30,000 patin fish as part of a fish-based food security effort.

The Riau Police Chief explained that food security has an important role in creating a healthy, productive, and competitive society. "Food security is the foundation to form strong human resources, in line with Indonesia's vision of Gold 2045," he said.

Riau Geographic Challenges

Riau's geographical challenges, such as peatlands and lowlands, make the implementation of this program require cross-sectoral cooperation between the police, the TNI, and the local community. Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal emphasized the importance of collaboration in overcoming this challenge and ensuring the sustainability of the program.

The Food Swasembada Resilience Program is not only aimed at strengthening food security but also empowering local communities, especially in agriculture and fisheries. One of the initiatives taken was the cultivation of corn on land belonging to the Sei Bone farmer group in Mining Village, Mining District, where 1 hectare of land was planted with Bonanza sweet corn, and 3 hectares of land planted with flat corn.

Assistance is also provided to farmers to ensure the success and sustainability of this program. With the cultivation of corn and catfish, the Riau Police hopes to create new jobs and improve the welfare of the local community.

The Riau Police's Food Self-Resilience Program aims to support national food security and harmonize central and regional policies in improving Food Self-Sufficiency.
