821 Bank Accounts Identified Online Gambling

JAKARTA - Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Digi, Prabu Revta Revolution, said that his party identified 821 bank accounts involved in online gambling practices throughout the current government period.

As is known, Komdigi is working with Google and Meta through a keywords-based approach, blocking access to judol content that uses certain words as markers.

"This step does not only involve removing content, but also terminating financial access for perpetrators who seek profit through online gambling. We are trying to close all gaps that allow them to operate in Indonesia," explained the Director General of IKP.

The public is also advised to play an active role in supporting the eradication of online gambling, by reporting content suspected of being involved in online gambling activities through the official Kemkomdigi channel.

Prabu said that community support is very meaningful in accelerating the process of prosecution and closing access to harmful content.

"We invite all Indonesian people to jointly protect our digital space from all forms of destructive online gambling. Public participation and support are the main keys to our success in fighting online gambling," he said.

In the period from October 20 to October 30, 2024, the Ministry of Komdigi has handled more than 186,187 gambling content detected on various platforms.

Handling the content includes blocking content, deleting accounts, and monitoring of sites and applications that are indicated to facilitate gambling.

This policy is also implemented in collaboration with social media platforms and technology companies.

Previously, Komdigi collaborated with Google and Meta through a keywords-based approach, blocking access to judol content that uses certain words as markers.

"Through this collaboration, we strive not only to remove existing content, but also to prevent the re-emergence of similar content in the future. This is a step that we continue to strengthen to reduce the bad effects of online gambling in Indonesia," said the Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Industry, Prabu Revta Revolution, Sunday, November 3, 2024.

In addition to blocking content in cyberspace, the Ministry of Communication and Industry has also intensified cooperation with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and related banks to block accounts suspected of being involved in online gambling activities.

During October 2024, 325 accounts indicated for gambling activities have been found to be blocked.
