KAI Closes Illegal Crossing At Beji Pasuruan

PASURUAN - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 8 Surabaya together with the Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) and the Transportation Service (Dishub) of Pasuruan Regency closed illegal crossings in the Beji area, Pasuruan.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya Luqman Arif said the closure of this illegal crossing was a form of concern from the local government, the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, and also KAI to create safety for train travel and motorists.

"With the closure of illegal crossings, of course, the potential for accidents at level crossings will decrease and ensure mutual safety between train trips and the community," he said in Pasuruan, Antara, Wednesday, October 30.

The safety of train travel and motorists at a railroad crossing is a special concern for the government and KAI.

"KAI Daop 8 Surabaya collaborated with relevant stakeholders, in this case the DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation and the Transportation Agency of Pasuruan Regency, to close illegal crossings," he said.

This closure was carried out at JPL 94 km 45+1/2, a plot of roads between Bangil Station - Porong Station, located in Beji Village, Pasuruan Regency. "During January-September 2024 KAI Daop 8 Surabaya supported by the local government has closed 24 points of level without guards," he said.

Based on data from KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Pasuruan Regency has 51 level crossings consisting of 14 crossings guarded and 37 crossings without guards.

"In January-September 2024, there were 4 incidents of train being hit by a vehicle at a level crossing. Twice by car twice by truck, which resulted in train travel disruptions," he said.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya continues to appeal to the entire community, especially vehicle drivers, to comply with traffic signs. When passing a railroad crossing, motorists are required to reduce speed and look left and left to ensure that no train will pass.

"If it is seen that KA will pass, then it is mandatory to prioritize train travel. Likewise, when the crossing siren reads, the crossing gate begins to close, the vehicle must stop," he said.

Luqman Arif said the order to prioritize train travel had been stated in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning LLAJ. Mentioned in Article 114, at a level crossing between the railway and road lanes, vehicle drivers must stop when the signal has sounded, railroad doors have begun to be closed and or there are other signs, prioritize trains and give the main right to vehicles that first cross the rail.

"For motorists who violate will be subject to criminal penalties in accordance with Article 296, with a maximum imprisonment of three months or a maximum fine of Rp. 750 thousand," he said.
