JAKARTA - UN peacekeeping forces stationed at a permanent observation post near Dhayra in southern Lebanon were attacked by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers.

According to UNIFIL, Israeli soldiers opened fire when they realized peacekeepers were observing the operation to clean nearby houses. UN dutykeepers at the post withdrew to avoid the attack that took place on Tuesday, October 22.

UNIFIL also said the IDF had repeatedly provoked peacekeeper missions to vacate its posts along the Israel-Lebanon border.

The Israeli army also intentionally damaged important equipment, including cameras, lights, and communication systems, at several observation points.

"Despite the pressure put on missions and countries that contribute to troops, peacekeeping forces remain in their position and duties," UNIFIL said in a statement reported by CNN, Friday, October 25.

A UNIFIL report earlier showed four peacekeepers were injured in early October during two days in two Israeli separate attacks.

Israel accuses Hezbollah of operating in an area near UNIFIL's post.

Meanwhile Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned two weeks ago that UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon were in danger.

Netanyahu expressed regret that a number of UN peacekeepers were injured in early October and asked UN Secretary-General Ant Totalio Guterres to immediately withdraw peacekeepers.
