Calling Sanctions Against Myanmar's Military Regime Dangerous, Russia: Encouraging Civil War

JAKARTA - Russia has said that the sanctions imposed by various parties on the Myanmar military regime will be futile, very dangerous, and encourage civil war.

This was disclosed, along with the sanctions imposed by several countries against the Myanmar military regime, such as those imposed by the United States, Britain, and the European Union.

Until now, sanctions have been imposed on Myanmar generals' top brass of the military regime, such as the coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Myanmar Military Senior Deputy General Soe Win.

The sanctions were also imposed against Aung Pyae Sone and Khin Thiri, two children of the leader of the Myanmar military regime, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, along with companies owned by both of them, including A & M Mahar Company Limited, Sky One Construction Company Limited, The Yangon Restaurant, Yangon Gallery and Everfit Company Limited, as reported by The Irrawaddy.

The sanctions also target Myanmar Economic Holdings Public Company Ltd (MEHL) and Myanmar Economic Corporation Ltd (MEC), two holding companies for Myanmar's military businesses.

"The path to threats and pressure, including the use of sanctions tools against the current Myanmar authorities, is futile and very dangerous", the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"In fact, such lines contribute to pitting one another and, ultimately, propelling the Myanmar people towards full-scale civil conflict", the statement added.

Although the Kremlin has raised concerns over the death toll during the campaign against Myanmar's military coup. However, the presence of Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Colonel General Alexander Vasilyevich Fomin at the commemoration of Myanmar Armed Forces Day, Saturday, March 27 drew attention and criticism.

Data from the activist group of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) states that nearly 3,500 people have been detained since the demonstration took place, meanwhile, the death toll has reached at least 564 people.
