JAKARTA - The United States (US) "has not seen evidence" that there is a Hezbollah bunker under Al Sahel hospital in southern Beirut, Lebanon, as alleged by Israel.

This was conveyed by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to reporters who traveled with him in Rome on Wednesday, October 23.

"We haven't seen any evidence of this at the moment, but you know, we will continue to collaborate with our Israeli counterparts to get better certainty about what they actually saw," Austin said in response to CNN's question.

Austin last weekend said he wanted to see Israel reduce its attacks around Beirut. But Israel did not heed the call and instead expanded its attacks around the city.

In addition, the US Defense Minister said no one in his office was named or was being investigated as part of an investigation into the highly classified document leak about Israel last week.

The United States is the largest arms supplier to Israel. In 2023, 69 percent of Israeli arms imports came from the US, according to reports of international arms transfers by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). In recent weeks, officials have demanded that Israel improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza or risk containing military aid.
