Novel Baswedan Asks Prabowo To Review The Capim And KPK Council's Proposal Jokowi

JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan asked President Prabowo Subianto to review the leadership candidates (capim) and the KPK supervisory board submitted by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) before stepping down. He said this was important for the former Minister of Defense (Menhan) to prove his commitment to eradicating corruption.

"In the ongoing process of selecting the leadership and supervisory board of the KPK, I hope President Prabowo can review the proposed candidates. The right leadership will be the key in carrying out the function of the KPK effectively," Novel told reporters in a written statement quoted on Wednesday, October 23.

In addition, Prabowo was asked to revise the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019 to prove his commitment to eradicating corruption. The decline in Indonesia's Corruption Perception Index (IPK) from 40 to 34 in the last four years shows that the results of the revision of the 2019 KPK Law have affected the institution's performance," he said.

"Therefore, I encourage President Prabowo to immediately revise the KPK Law in order to restore the independence of the KPK in accordance with Law Number 30 of 2002," continued Novel.

Previously, a similar pressure was also conveyed by the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman through a letter to Prabowo Subianto. He urged the recommendation of the candidate for leadership and supervisory board of the KPK which Jokowi submitted to the DPR RI to be withdrawn.

"The contents of the letter are a request to Mr. Prabowo to form a new selection committee for the leadership candidate and candidate for the KPK supervisory board," Boyamin said in a written statement to reporters, Tuesday, October 22.

Boyamin said the letter was sent via goods delivery service on Monday afternoon, October 21. "Only Mr. Prabowo has the authority to form the KPK Pansel and ignore the results formed by Jokowi," he said.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has sent 10 names of candidates for leadership and 10 names of candidates for the KPK supervisory board to the DPR RI. Furthermore, they will carry out a fit and proper test.
