Meutya Says Prabowo Has A Strong Foundation On Food Swasembada And Gives Appreciation To Jokowi

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto targets Indonesia to achieve food self-sufficiency in four to five years. Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Meutya Hafid, is optimistic that this target can be achieved considering that Prabowo has instilled the foundation for this food self-sufficiency since he was still the minister of defense (Menhan).

"Earlier, his dreams were great and I think it was very appropriate in the current era of global challenges regarding food cultivation, energy cultivation, digitization, he talked a lot about digital, so hopefully this can be done in the next five years," said Meutya.

This was conveyed by Meutya after attending the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (20/10/2024).

Meutya, who previously served as Chairman of Commission I of the DPR, understood Prabowo's struggle to realize food security in Indonesia.

During his time as Minister of Defense, Prabowo was known to have made many food security programs supported by Commission I of the DPR as a partner of the Ministry of Defense. So what Prabowo said in his speech regarding the food self-sufficiency target, said Meutya, already has a strong foundation.

"Regarding food self-sufficiency, in particular, this is not just his rhetoric. Because with Commission I actually efforts in that direction have been initiated for the last five years through the food security program," explained the legislator from the North Sumatra I electoral district.

"So it's not a statement, but there is already a foundation towards it," added Meutya.

As for the food self-sufficiency target, Prabowo wants Prabowo to achieve so that Indonesia can achieve food sovereignty or security. That way, Indonesia does not depend on food products from abroad considering that in a precarious and crisis situation, other countries will not allow their goods to be purchased so that Indonesia is said to need a food estate.

Meutya hopes that the foundations that have been carried out so far can help President Prabowo realize food self-sufficiency in Indonesia. Of course, support from all people is also needed.

"God willing, it will be granted, of course with the support of all Indonesian people," said the woman who is included in the ranks of the candidate for minister of the Prabowo Cabinet.

On the other hand, Meutya appreciates the development achievements that have been carried out by the Government of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for the last 10 years. According to him, Jokowi has brought many changes with equal distribution of development in the country.

"In North Sumatra and eastern Indonesia, I am sure that I really feel the infrastructure development he has placed so that now economic trade is much better," said Meutya.

Meutya also expressed her gratitude for Jokowi's dedication and performance during his two terms of leadership as president.

"Thank you Pak Jokowi for laying down many of our foundations for jumping forward," he concluded.
