The Fall Of Mount Merapi Lava Comes Out 25 Times Towards The Bebeng River

SLEMAN - Mount Merapi, which is located on the border of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java, again shows its volcanic activity. During the observation period which took place on Friday, October 11, from 00.00 WIB to 06.00 WIB, the Center for Research and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) recorded an increase in lava avalanche activity.

There were 31 avalanches with an amplitude of between 3-20 mm and a duration of 56.8-185.6 seconds. Of the total avalanche activity, 25 lava avalanches were observed to be heading southwest.

"25 lava avalanches were observed to the southwest (Kali Bebeng) with a maximum sliding distance of 1,800 meters," said Head of BPPTKG Agus Budi Santosa in his statement on Friday, October 11.

Visually, the weather conditions were observed to be sunny with calm winds blowing towards the west. Weak pressure crater smoke is seen with moderate intensity, reaching a height of 100 meters above the crater peak. In addition, one hybrid/many phase earthquake was recorded with an amplitude of 3 mm, duration of 6.56 seconds, and S-P 0.4 seconds.

Currently, Merapi is on alert status (level III), which shows significant potential hazards. Lava fall and hot clouds still have the potential to occur, especially in the south-southwest sector which includes the Boyong River with a maximum distance of 5 kilometers, as well as the Bedog, Krasak, and Bebeng rivers up to 7 kilometers.

In the southeast sector, the Woro and Gendol rivers also have the potential to be affected up to 3 kilometers and 5 kilometers from the summit.

People around Mount Merapi are advised not to move in the potential danger zone and remain alert to the possibility of lava and hot clouds, especially when it rains.

In addition, volcanic ash from the eruption of Merapi can cause disturbances in the surrounding area.

Until now, the supply of magma within Mount Merapi is still ongoing. If there is a significant increase in volcanic activity, BPPTKG will immediately re-evaluate the status of the mountain activity.
