UN Investigation Commission: Israel Commits Humanitarian Crime In Gaza

JAKARTA - Israel is said to have committed crimes against humanity in its actions in the Gaza Strip, according to the UN International Independent Investigation Commission for Palestinian occupied territories, including East Jerusalem and Israel.

"The report found that Israeli security forces deliberately killed, detained, and tortured medics and targeted medical vehicles while tightening sieges in Gaza and limiting permits to leave for medical treatment," reads the document as quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Thursday, October 10.

"This act is a war crime in the form of intentional murder, ill treatment, destruction of protected civilian property, and crimes against humanity in the form of destruction," the document reads.

The Commission also found both Israeli and Palestinian armed groups tortured prisoners.

"The commission is also investigating the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israel and against Israeli hostages as well as foreigners in Gaza since October 7, 2023, and concluded that Israel and the Palestinian armed group are responsible for sexual and gender-based torture and violence," the report said.

Israel's chief security authority Ben-Gvir personally ordered torture of Palestinian prisoners, the commission said.

The report found institutional ill-treatment of Palestinian prisoners, who had become a long-term characteristic of occupation, took place under direct orders of Ben-Gvir who was responsible for the prison system and was prompted by statements by Israeli authorities that sparked violence and retaliation, the report said.
