The New Face Of The DPR Has Not Been Released From The Oligarchy And Dynasty Politics

JAKARTA - Indostrategic Executive Director Ahmad Khoirul Umam assessed that a new face that refers to the membership composition for the 2024-2029 period shows that the DPR cannot be separated from dynasties and political oligarchies.

Although not against regeneration in DPR membership, Umam still doubts the track record of around 87 young politicians under 50 who were sworn in as lawmakers last October 1.

"It looks like it's still cute. But people have to remember, we will live under the decisions they make later," he said, Sunday, October 6, 2024.

In addition to the track record that is still in doubt, many young politicians who are representatives of the people are relatives of political elites. In Umam's notes, at least 57 of the 87 young politicians in the House of Representatives are currently suspected of being strongly connected to the power base of the political dynasty and local oligarchy network.

"So, for example, if we reflect in a political context, we talk at a local level, that's the fact. Many of them have relatives' relationships with other elected candidates, both husband-wife relations, children, nephews, and others," he said.

The number of candidates in the category of political dynasties adds to the pessimism of the face of the new DPR. It is not that they do not support their political rights, but it is undeniable that their electability must be supported by the position of other people who have influence," concluded Umam.
