Middle East Conflict Continues To Heat Up, Jokowi: The Only Road Dialogue

After leading the run of the TNI's 79th Anniversary Ceremony in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, this Saturday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized the importance of a soft approach and dialogue to resolve a prolonged conflict in the Middle East, especially in Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon, and Israel.

"Actually, if all countries take soft approaches through dialogue, through meeting, through good communication, I think we can avoid events in Palestine, in Gaza, in Lebanon," he said, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, October 5.

According to President Jokowi, good meetings and communication between all parties involved is the key to avoiding further escalation of conflict.

"I think dialogue is indeed the only way to resolve existing conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, Israel with Palestine, Israel with Hezbollah, and Iran with Israel. Everything must be resolved at the negotiating table," he said.

He added that all countries should be committed not to enlarge conflicts and strive so that dialogue remains a priority in finding peaceful solutions in the region.

Jokowi added that Indonesia's position has been consistent in encouraging peace in the Middle East through diplomacy and mediation, in accordance with the principles of active free foreign politics.
