Russia Denies Possible Nuclear Strategic Dialogue With The United States Amid Enmity Policy

JAKARTA - Russia sees no reason to talk to the United States about strategic stability, as long as Washington continues to ignore Moscow's interests, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"Until Washington reassess a very hostile anti-Russian direction, any discussion with the US on strategic issues, including nuclear arms control, is meaningless to Russia. In fact, it is only counterproductive," Zakharova said when asked about possible Moscow-Washington talks on the Strategic Weapons Reduction Agreement., reported from TASS October 3.

"In the future, we see no point in engaging in strategic dialogue with Washington unless it involves comprehensive efforts to reduce the level of conflict as a whole, respect Russia's fundamental interests, and focus on resolving the fundamental security contradictions created by the United States and NATO," he explained.

According to Zakharova, Washington has shown no desire to engage in a comprehensive dialogue on all important aspects of the issue of strategic stability.

"Meanwhile, this is what Russia consistently emphasizes," he said.

"The current security situation is very important. Russia has repeatedly mentioned this and clarified its position," Zakharova explained.

A spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Moscow was against the idea of "provoking separate talks from military and political realities."

"There is no basis for equal dialogue in situations where the US and NATO seek to cause what they call a strategic defeat to Russia and completely undermine our security," he stressed.

He added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov did not hold a meeting on strategic stability with Western officials on the sidelines of Week high in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
