Prosecutors Demand 5 Years In Prison Defendant In Synthetic Tobacco Ownership Case In Ambon

The Maluku High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has charged the defendant Josua Pudekokang in a case of alleged abuse of synthetic tobacco narcotics for five years in prison.

The prosecution's demands (JPU) were delivered in a trial chaired by the Chief Justice of the Orpa Marthina at the Ambon District Court (PN), Wednesday, October 2.

"Asking the panel of judges who examined and tried this case to declare the defendant legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 112 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics," said the Public Prosecutor.

The defendant was also demanded to pay a fine of Rp. 800 million, subsidiary to six months in prison.

"What burdens the defendant is being charged with imprisonment for not supporting the government's program in preventing and abusing narcotics. Meanwhile, what relieves the defendant is polite and has never been punished," said the prosecutor.

Joshua was arrested by the police on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at around 15.00 WIT.

The arrests were made after the police received information that the shipment of packages allegedly contained drugs through goods delivery services.

Then the police went to the service company to ask about the package in question, but it turned out that a man had picked up the goods.

The police also failed to track down the perpetrator from the company's surveillance camera (CCTV) because it was damaged, so an intensive investigation was carried out and managed to get the identity of the defendant.

At the trial, the panel of judges postponed the trial until next week with the agenda of hearing the defendant's defense through his legal advisers Tri Hendra Unenor and Abdurab Mabari.
