Not Only BLBI, KPK Opportunity To SP3 Other Corruption Cases

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has again opened the possibility to issue a Letter of Termination of Investigation and Prosecution (SP3). The main thing is the old case where the suspect can no longer undergo examination and is not worthy of being submitted to trial.

"Of course we will look at case by case. There are several old cases and some of the suspects are no longer able to attend the examination because they are seriously ill or permanently so they do not deserve to be brought to trial," Deputy Chairman of the KPK Alexander Marwata said in a press conference broadcast on Monday. However, the KPK will not be in a hurry to stop this case. Alex said, before the SP3 was issued, of course his party would first ask for a second opinion from the doctor who stated that it was no longer possible to carry out legal proceedings.

"Later, after we get a second opinion from the doctor who states that the suspect is not possible to continue the investigation process, of course we will issue his SP3," he said.

"We do not want to hang the fate of someone in this uncertainty and of course we will review the progress of the investigation," added Alex.

Previously reported, the KPK officially stopped investigating the corruption case with the issuance of the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance Certificate (BLBI) which ensnared Sjamsul Nursalim and his wife, Itjih Nursalim and Syafruddin Arsyad Tumenggung.

This is the termination of the first case investigation carried out by the KPK after the implementation of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law Number 19 of 2019.

He said that this termination was based on the provisions in the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019. "The termination of this investigation is in accordance with the provisions of Article 40 of the KPK Law as part of law enforcement so that in every case handling will always comply with applicable legal rules," he said.
