Gus Dur's Family Was Coupled Through The MPR TAP And Accused Of Corruption

JAKARTA - The family of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur was hurt by the coup and allegations of corruption while leading Indonesia in the 1999-2001 period.

This was revealed by Gus Dur's wife, Sinta Nuriyah accompanied by her four daughters Zannuba Ariffah Chafsoh or Yenny Wahid, Alissa Qotrunnada Munawaroh, Inayah Wulandari and Anita Hayatunnufus while attending the National Gathering with the MPR RI at Nusantara V Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, September 29.

Sinta revealed that the various accusations were addressed to Gus Dur through the wrong procedures and hit each other. Even until now, he said, none of these allegations had been proven.

"For us, the most painful thing is the accusation as if Gus Dur had committed acts of corruption," said Sinta after receiving the document for the revocation of TAP MPR Number II/MPR/2001 and the recommendation for giving the title of National Hero to Gus Dur from the leadership of the MPR RI, Sunday, September 29.

As is known, Gus Dur was removed because he was deemed to have violated the 1945 Constitution Article 9 concerning the MPR Oath and TAP Number XI/MPR/1998 concerning the Implementation of a State that was KKN-free. The reason is that Gus Dur is accused of using the assistance fund of the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam amounting to 2 million US dollars and the Bulog Employee Welfare Foundation funds amounting to 4 million US dollars.

Sinta testified that Gus Dur never intended to enrich himself and his family by committing acts of corruption. In fact, according to him, all Indonesian people know about it.

"Everyone who knows Gus Dur and I think in this room a lot of people who have directly interacted with Gus Dur can testify about Gus Dur's simplicity. Until the end of his life, Gus Dur never accumulated property," said Sinta.

"More ironically, Gus Dur has also been handed down because he is considered not to have complied with the MPR," he continued.

Nevertheless, Sinta stated, Gus Dur's family never held a grudge against anyone over Gus Dur's resignation from the presidency. However, the family is of the opinion, he said, it is important for the state to straighten history so that the entire nation can learn and not repeat the same problem.

"The coup against Gus Dur is the first political event. When the president, who was elected democratically, was brought down in the middle of the road," said Sinta.

Therefore, Sinta and her family welcomed the MPR RI decision which has officially revoked MPR Decree (TAP) Number II of 2001 concerning the Accountability of Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur.

Gus Dur's family also asked the government to immediately rehabilitate the name of the big Nahdlatul Ulama figure. According to Sinta, the revocation of the MPR TAP could be a binding stone, a reminder, so that the events that befell Gus Dur do not happen again.

"We hope to be the clearest mirror for the growth of democracy for Indonesia, so that it is not maintained by dirty hands," said Sinta.

The momentum for the revocation of TAP MPR number II/MPR/2001, added Sinta, must also be used to urge the implementation of essential democracy in this country, not procedural democracy that is prone to being engineered.

That way, according to him, there are no more parties who can freely carry out political engineering to bring down legitimate power or outsmart democracy for their own interests and groups alone.

"What happened to Gus Dur, should not take place again in this country. Therefore, we view two concrete steps that can be pursued after the revocation of the MPR TAP. First, Gus Dur's name was immediately rehabilitated by restoring his good name, dignity, and dignity as a former president," he said.

"Second, all forms of publication, both textbooks and books that involve Gus Dur's decline with the TAP MPR, must be withdrawn for revision," concluded Sinta Nuriyah.
