MPR Leader Rekomendasi Gus Dur Diberi Gelar Pahlawan Nasional

JAKARTA - The leadership of the MPR RI recommended the awarding of the title of National Hero to the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) after agreeing to revoke MPR Decree Number II/MPR/2001 concerning the President of the Republic of Indonesia's Accountability. This recommendation will be submitted to the elected President, Prabowo Subianto.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the MPR Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) in a national gathering with Gus Dur's family at the Nusantara V Building, Sunday, September 29.

"If President Soekarno we know as Mr. Proclaimer. President Suharto, Mr. Development. President Habibie, Mr. Technology. President Megawati, Mrs. Constitutional Enforcement. President of SBY, Mr. Peace. And President Jokowi, Mr. Infrastructure. So Gus Dur is Mr. Pluralism," said Bamsoet starting his remarks.

According to Bamsoet, Gus Dur's alignment with pluralism cannot be separated from his strong commitment to upholding supermasis of democracy based on humanity and social justice. For Gus Dur, he said, advancing democracy must be in one breath with respect to human values or humanism and the struggle to realize a sense of justice in the midst of people's lives.

"Maybe if Gus Dur is still alive, seeing the development of today which of course becomes PR (homework, ed), the president will come to improve the values that have been fading so far. Where the law that was previously realized to uphold justice is then used as an art product to justify wrong things, blame the right one. And we have to reverse it that politics is science to enforce the constitution, provide a country that is Commonwealth, fair, even, and democratic. Not politics that is used as a possible science, does not allow what is possible," explained the Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party.

Therefore, continued Bamsoet, the MPR RI agreed to revoke the TAP MPR Number II/MPR/2001. The MPR also agreed that Gus Dur's services in fighting for the values of tolerance, democracy, and social justice were very large.

"And with the affirmation of a letter from the leadership of the MPR which was supported by the general views of the factions and DPD groups at the final trial of the last MPR term, there has been firmness that TAP MPR Number II/MPR/2001 concerning the accountability of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Kiai Haji, Abdurrahman Wahid, currently the legal position is no longer valid," said Bamsoet.

"Therefore, it is not excessive if former President Kiai Haji, Abdurrahman Wahid, is seriously considered by today's government and in the future to get once again the National Hero's Title Award in accordance with the laws and regulations and in line with the dignity of humanity, services, and service to the nation and state," continued the former chairman of the DPR.

Furthermore, Bamsoet added, the MPR leadership will officially submit a letter of response to the MPR National Awakening Party (PKB) faction as well as the recommendation document.

"We send it to the extended family of former President KH, Abdurrahman Wahid, and President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, as well as to the elected President Prabowo Subianto through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Then we also send it to the Chairman of the DPR, the Chair of the Supreme Court, and the Attorney General," he concluded.
