JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi hopes that the President of the UN Security Council will continue to encourage the struggle of the Palestinian people.

He conveyed this in a bilateral meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob. Slovenia, who is the President of the UN Security Council in September 2024, on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, United States on Friday.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno appreciated Slovenia's decision to recognize Palestinian sovereignty on June 4, 2024.

"Indonesia hopes that Slovenia, as the UN DK Presidency, will continue to encourage the struggle of the Palestinian people, including through the delivery of humanitarian aid, and urge Israel to stop its atrocities and occupation in Palestine," Foreign Minister Retno said in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saturday, September 28.

Slovenia has consistently called for the importance of a ceasefire and the smooth provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as having a consistent position in supporting UNRWA's work.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Retno also invited the Prime Minister of Slovenia to encourage cooperation in the water sector, especially through exchanging experiences and technology transfers to ensure access to clean water for countries in need.

The issue of water and disaster is becoming a concern in the midst of the Hurricane Boris disaster that hit the central and eastern regions of Europe, causing a number of areas to be flooded and not electrified.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Slovenia also agreed to encourage more concrete cooperation, one of which is the use of super computer technology, artificial intelligence, and satellite technology in monitoring weather and water resources.
