Victims Died Due To Helene Storm In The US Now Reaches 33 People

JAKARTA - The death toll from the Helene storm in the southeast of the United States (US) has now reached 33 people. The storm triggered flooding to landslides.

In Tennessee, concerns over the breakdown of a dam near the town of Newport prompted officials to order evacuations in the central area. Another dam in North Carolina is on the verge of failure.

Before moving north through Georgia and into Tennessee and Carolina, Helene hit the Big Bend Florida area as a Category 4 storm with wind speeds of 140 mph (225 kph).

This disaster left chaos in the form of overturned boats at the port, fallen trees, submerged cars, and flooded roads.

As of Friday, September 27 afternoon, the storm's strength fell with a maximum wind speed of 35 mph (55 kph), the National Storm Center said.

However, heavy rains that occurred in Helene still caused floods in many areas, and police and firefighters carried out thousands of water rescues throughout the affected state.

More than 50 people were trapped on the roof of a hospital in Unicoi County, Tennessee, about 120 miles northeast ofturbationville, when the banjur occurred.

Local authorities said the people had been rescued.
