JAKARTA - Israel launched the widest wave of airstrikes against hundreds of Hezbollah targets, killing 100 people.

These latest attacks took place amid several of the toughest cross-border exchanges of fire in nearly a year of conflict, as Israel shifted its focus to the northern border, where Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of its Hamas allies.

"We are expanding our attack on Lebanon, this action will continue until we reach our goal of returning the northern population safely to their homes," Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a video reported by Reuters, Monday, September 23.

"These are the days where the Israeli people must show calm," he added.

He spoke after the Israeli military targeted the Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, the east Bekaa valley, and the northern region near Syria.

Lebanese Health Ministry said 100 people were killed, including women, children and medics, and more than 300 people were injured in an Israeli attack on Monday.

Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a post on X, so far more than 300 Hezbollah targets have been attacked.

In retaliation, Hezbollah said it launched rockets into Israeli military posts.
