SEMARANG - Police arrested a man with the initials DA (40), a resident of Ngaliyan, Semarang City, Central Java, for the crime of assaulting a priest named Djoko Walujo Prastijo.
Semarang Police Chief Kombes Irwan Anwar said the victim was stabbed in the stomach for trying to protect his son from the whereabouts of the perpetrator.
The stabbing incident occurred at the victim's house on Jalan Bergota Talang, Semarang City, on August 28, 2024. The perpetrator, who is the former victim's son-in-law, came to the house drunk.
"The perpetrator stabbed the victim's left abdomen with a sharp weapon while on the terrace of the house," he said in Semarang, Antara, Monday, September 23.
According to the perpetrator's statement, the act was carried out as a result of allegedly being hurt because the victim had reported himself to the police.
The DA suspect himself is a recidivist who has served a criminal sentence before.
