Action Strikes Belgian Security Officer Brussels Airlines Cancels Majority Of Flights October 1

JAKARTA - Brussels Airlines will cancel most of its flights on October 1 due to a national strike by Belgian security officers.

Brussels Airport, the country's largest airport, has asked airlines to review their schedules as the strike would result in reduced security checks.

The airport said large numbers of security staff were expected to participate in the strike and estimated a major impact on airport operations that day.

Brussels Airlines base is located at Brussels Airport and is one of the hubs of the Lufthansa Group.

A spokesman for Brussels Airlines said it needed to cancel 80 percent of the 203 scheduled flights that day.

Passengers will be offered an alternative flight schedule with flights on the date of departure early, departure date later, or on the same day through other Lufthansa Group hubs.

About 2.4 million passengers and 18,600 flights traveled via Brussels Airport last month, according to the airport.

The strike in October came less than a month after flight traffic from Charleroi airport in Belgium, which is the main center of Ryanair's saving airline, was criticized by a strike by airport employees for several days.
