Facing The 2024 Pilkada In 545 Regions, The Constitutional Court Hopes To Be A Moment To Awaken Public Trust

Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Saldi Isra invited the General Elections Commission (KPU) to make the 2024 Pilkada a momentum to restore public trust.

"This (pilkada) is a good and good momentum for the KPU, especially to restore trust," said Saldi Isra, quoted from the official website of the Constitutional Court, Jakarta, Thursday, September 19, confiscated by Antara.

Saldi revealed that the Constitutional Court, KPU, and Bawaslu faced a tough task to organize the 2024 simultaneous regional elections. This year's regional elections were held in 545 regions in Indonesia, right after the stages of the presidential and legislative elections were completed.

Saldi admits the task is a tough job. However, he considered the task a great opportunity for the KPU and the Constitutional Court to take back public trust.

He said that it could not be denied that there was still a crisis of confidence in several state institutions, including the Constitutional Court and the KPU.

Therefore, Saldi appealed to election organizers to make this momentum a capital to restore public trust.

Moreover, he continued, the KPU as an institution that plays a role in carrying out the democratic process. He said the KPU must be able to prove to the public that elections can be held with the principle of independence.

The practice of democracy can survive well if the KPU can prove it as an independent institution.

"All of us, including the Constitutional Court, are parties who have an interest in maintaining that all the political infrastructure that drives our democracy regains the trust of many people. Therefore, our task is together, not only the task of the KPU, Bawaslu, this is also the task of the Constitutional Court," said Saldi.

He made this statement during the Technical Guidance of the Legal Dispute on the Results of the Election of the Governor, Regent and Mayor (PHP Kada) for the General Election Commission of the Fourth Force. The activity took place in Bogor, West Java, Wednesday, September 18 evening.
