The Electability Of Incumbent Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi In The East Kalimantan Gubernatorial Election Loses To Rudy Mas'ud-Seno Aji

JAKARTA - The Color Research Center survey institute released the results of public preferences regarding the level of electability of two pairs of candidates for governor and deputy governor in East Kalimantan Province ahead of the 2024 Pilkada.

As a result, the incumbent Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi's electability was only 33.8 percent less than his challenger Rudy Mas'ud-Seno Aji who won 58.6 percent.

The reason is, in a survey presented to the public, it was found that many were dissatisfied with the leadership of Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi. Incumbents are considered to have failed by the people of East Kalimantan so they want a new figure as governor and deputy governor.

"In a closed question, the Rudy Mas'ud-Seno Aji pair are far ahead at 58.6 percent and the incumbent Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi is 33.8 percent. Meanwhile, 7.6 percent of respondents have not made a choice/have not answered," said the Executive Director of the Hilman Firmansyah Research Center in his statement, Thursday, September 19.

Meanwhile, he continued, the level of public satisfaction with the performance of Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi only reached 40.6 percent. The incumbent government's success rate was assessed at 38.5 percent of the program promised during the campaign in the last election.

Then, 77.4 percent of respondents considered the incumbent to have failed to reduce the high dropout rate in East Kalimantan (Kaltim). Where according to respondents' opinion, tens of thousands of children could not continue their education due to various problems, especially family economic factors that did not support the costs that had to be incurred for their children.

"A total of 70.6 percent of respondents considered that in East Kalimantan educational facilities and infrastructure were still far from ideal where the number of schools was not evenly distributed. Not all sub-districts had schools for the junior high and high school levels," he explained.

The survey results also found several issues discussed by respondents. Where, said Hilman, 57.3 percent discussed HR issues and employment opportunities in East Kalimantan during the era of Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi's leadership as the province with the highest unemployment rate in Kalimantan which reached 5.71 percent.

"With the existence of IKN, opportunities and opportunities for job opportunities and new business opportunities will increase, but the government needs to ensure this opportunity can be accessed by local residents," he said.

In addition, Hilman added, as many as 17.4 percent of respondents discussed issues related to infrastructure development, transportation and communication the need for acceleration. "Like the comprehensive internet in East Kalimantan, it is also important so that effectiveness in development can be carried out," he added.

Then also as many as 25.2 percent of respondents paid attention to issues about the environment. Respondents want rapid development in East Kalimantan to degrade environmental sustainability.

Meanwhile, if you look for information regarding the electability level of the two pairs of candidates with open responses and ask questions spontaneously, if the election is held at this time. As a result, the cagub-cawagub pair Rudy Mas'ud-Seno Aji won with 53.1 percent and the Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi pair 30.3 percent.

"Then as many as 16.4 percent of respondents still have not made a choice or choose not to answer," he concluded.

This survey was conducted on 5-15 September 2024 with a survey methodology with multistage random sampling with a total of around 1,400 respondents in East Kalimantan Province.

Data collection is carried out through face-to-face interviews with respondents using questionnaires. This survey has a margin of error of up to 2.62 percent.
