IDM Survey: Rudi Mas'ud-Seno Aji's Pair Achieves 59.1 Percent Electability

JAKARTA - Indonesia Development Monitoring (IDM) released the results of a survey related to the electability level of two pairs of candidates for governor and prospective deputy governor candidates in the East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Pilkada.

The survey results show that Rudy Mas'ud-Seno Aji's electability is superior compared to the Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi pair.

"In the simulation using a closed question, the result was that the Rudy Mas'ud-Seno Aji pair was 59.1 percent and the Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi pair was 36.3 percent and did not choose 4.6 percent," said IDM Executive Director, Heru Supriyatno in a written statement received by VOI, Monday, September 16.

The pair Rudy Mas'ud -Seno Aji also excels in the simulation of open questions related to the choice of respondents who ask which candidate pairs will be chosen if the Kalimantan gubernatorial election is held today.

"As a result, the electability of the Rudy Masud-Seno Aji pair was at 50.2 percent, the Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi pair was 33.4 percent, and did not choose 16.4 percent," said Heru.

Heru said the survey results showed that the East Kalimantan public knew very well that many problems could not be resolved during the period of the Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi administration during their five years of office.

So, said Heru, the defeat of the electability level of Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi in the survey became a symbol that the community wanted a change in leadership in East Kalimantan.

In this survey, Heru continued, it was found that respondents said that the condition of road infrastructure in a number of East Kalimantan areas was very concerning.

Such as roads to Samarinda-Kutai Barat, Samarinda-Bontang, Berau-Tanjung Redeb, Samarinda-Tenggalong-Kota Bangun, and Tenggarong-Kota Bangun.

The next problem found in the survey during the leadership of Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi was conveyed that the majority of respondents were labor and job problems for local communities.

Regarding this, he said, respondents considered that the workforce in East Kalimantan was not doing well.

The majority of respondents also questioned that there was no policy from the leadership of Isran Noor-Hadi Mulyadi while leading to protect local workers from becoming workers at foreign investment locations in East Kalimantan.

"Where foreign investors employ a lot of expatriates, but local workers are minimally empowered or accommodated," said Heru.

Therefore, he continued, from the survey results, it was found that voters in East Kalimantan in choosing candidates for governor and deputy governor were based on several considerations.

Among other things, because of the personal candidate for governor and deputy governor with a percentage of 54.7 percent, because the political party carries 18.1 percent and because of the party figure or party leader 16.3 percent.

Meanwhile, voters who do not know or do not answer are 10.9 percent.

In addition, according to Heru, the survey results also showed that 10.6 percent of respondents expected the candidate for governor and deputy governor to be the son of the region.

Then 60.2 percent emphasized the importance of a good track record and 29.2 percent wanted candidates to be free from legal problems.

Heru said there were 3 main characters that the East Kalimantan leader wanted by respondents.

Among them are honest and not corruption 59.8 percent, populist and simple 17.8 percent, and firm and authoritative 22.4 percent

"The survey results also show that 81.4 percent of respondents stated that they would participate in the 2024 East Kalimantan Pilkada," he concluded.

The IDM survey was conducted from September 1 to 10, 2024, involving 1,800 East Kalimantan residents aged 17 years and over.

Sampel withdrawal using the multistage random sampling method and the results of this survey have a margin of error of less or more 2.31 percent at a 95 percent confidence level, the survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews with respondents.
