China Issues Warning When Typhoon Bebinca Gets Closer

JAKARTA - China has issued an emergency response to the possibility of flooding due to heavy rains as Typhoon Bebinca is approaching and is expected to affect the country's southeast region.

The warning came after Bebinca moved away from Japan's southwestern archipelago, Amami, on Sunday morning and moved northwest across the East China Sea, according to a Tokyo-based Kyodo News report.

The Japan Meteorology Agency (JMA) was quoted via Antara, Sunday, September 15 as saying, the typhoon was about 230 kilometers (143 miles) northwest of Amami city and moved to the northwest at a speed of about 25 km per hour (16 miles per hour).

Bebinca, the 13th storm of the year, brought strong winds of up to 180 kph (112 mph) with atmospheric pressure 965 hectopascal at its center.

It is estimated that Bebinca's strength will weaken into tropical storms on Monday or after.

China's Ministry of Water Resources has issued Level-IV emergency responses to possible flooding in Shanghai and Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, according to a CGTN government broadcaster report.

Bebinca is expected to land along the coast from Taizhou City in Zhejiang to Qidong City in Jiangsu between Sunday night and Monday morning, bringing very high rainfall.

This Typhoon can cause a rise in water surfaces in several medium and small rivers in the region.

China has a four-tier emergency response system for flood control, with Level I as the worst.
