The DPR's Hajj Special Committee Considers Option Involving Law Enforcement

The House of Representatives' Special Committee on Hajj Rights considers options to involve law enforcement officials such as the National Police and the KPK to strengthen investigations into alleged irregularities in the additional hajj quota

According to a member of the DPR's Hajj Special Committee, Wisnu Wijaya, the option surfaced after his party conducted a series of investigations through special committee meetings and sudden inspections (sidak) in a number of related places.

"Especially after considering the progress of the investigation that has been carried out. The involvement of law enforcement officers is expected to clarify various indications of irregularities found," he said, Sunday, September 8, 2024.

This politician from the PKS faction revealed that the DPR's Hajj Special Committee regretted the attitude of the Ministry of Religion which was recently considered uncooperative during the investigation process. This can be seen from the absence of a number of officials from the Ministry of Religion who were summoned by the special committee, allegations of giving false statements and / or documents by witnesses, as well as allegations of pressure experienced by witnesses.

In addition to the impression of efforts to obstruct investigations, the Ministry of Religion's uncooperative attitude can also be interpreted as a form of harassment of the DPR's good intentions which requires a persuasive settlement of the alleged irregularities in this additional hajj quota.

"This act of insulting the parliament will only strengthen the encouragement of the DPR's Hajj committee to involve law enforcement officials in investigating allegations of irregularities in the additional hajj quota," said Wisnu.

Therefore, this member of Commission VIII of the DPR questioned the Ministry of Religion's commitment to provide Hajj services that are fair, dignified, and humane to the congregation.

"We hope that there will be a more cooperative attitude from the Ministry of Religion in order to achieve a fair and transparent solution to the alleged deviation of this additional hajj quota. We will greatly appreciate the responsive and integrity attitude shown by the summoned parties," added Wisnu.
