PLO: The Murder Of Activists Is Israel's Intimidation Efforts Against Palestinian Supporters

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) on Saturday 7 September condemned the killing of Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi (26) by Israel as an attempt to intimidate and pressure supporters of the Palestinian struggle.

In a statement, citing Antara, Sunday, September 8, the PLO expatriate department said Eygi's assassination highlighted Israel's brutality and occupational violence against innocent civilians and those who opposed his actions.

The organization stressed that the killing was aimed at intimidating and suppressing support for Palestine.

PLO considers Tel Aviv to be fully responsible for Eygi's death, and calls for substantial international pressure on Israel to stop its violation of international laws and treaties.

PLO Secretary-General Hussein al-Sheikh called for the Israeli military to stand trial in international courts and described the killings as "other crimes that add to the daily atrocities committed by the occupation forces."

The organization also demands compliance with international resolutions and an end to the occupation.

Eygi was shot dead by Israeli forces on Friday while participating in protests against the expansion of settlements in Beita city, near Nablus in the northern West Bank.

Director of Rafidia Hospital in Nablus Fouad Nafia stated that Eygi was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and pronounced dead despite a resuscitation attempt.

International communities, including Turkey, the US and the United Nations, have condemned the killing of Eygi.

Tensions are mounting throughout the occupied West Bank region as Israel continues to launch its brutal attack on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 40,900 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since October 7 last year.

Israeli forces on Friday, September 6 withdrew from the city of Jenin after a 10-day siege, leaving a trail of destruction behind him.

In an important opinion submission last July, the International Court stated that Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian soil was illegal, and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
