His Position Ended October 17, Heru Budi: Replaced Or Not, It's Up To The Minister Of Home Affairs

JAKARTA - The term of office of the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta will end on October 17, 2024 after leading Jakarta for 2 years from October 17, 2022. Meanwhile, there is still until January 2025 before the inauguration of the elected regional head in the 2025 Pilkada.

Heru admitted that he did not know whether his term of office would expire next month or be extended again.

"October 17 is the year I served two years as Governor. It's up to me to give me a task," said Heru in Kuningan, South Jakarta, Friday, September 6.

According to the Head of the Presidential Secretariat, the authority to replace his position is in the hands of the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.

"It is changed or not, it is up to the Minister of Home Affairs. After all, I carry out the duties as submitted to me," said Heru.

Provisions regarding the term of office of Acting regional head are contained in the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs (Permendagri) Number 4 of 2023 concerning Acting Governor, Acting Regent, and Acting Mayor.

In Article 8, the governor's term of office lasts 1 year and can be extended the next 1 year with the same person or different. Referring to this rule, Heru's term of office will end two years after taking office, namely October 17, 2024.

The same provisions also apply to the Acting Regent and Mayor, as stated in Article 14 of the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 4 of 2023.

The DKI Jakarta DPRD also scheduled a joint leadership meeting (rapimgab) to discuss the proposed name of the candidate for Governor of Jakarta who will take office after two years of Heru's leadership. Rapimgab will be held on Wednesday, September 11.

The chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Achmad Yani explained, in this rapidity, each faction in the DPRD will propose the names of the candidates for the Acting Governor of Jakarta who will serve until the Governor of Jakarta is definitive as a result of the 2024 Pilkada.

"Yes (the DPRD will immediately determine the new Acting candidate). (The reason is because) his term of office has expired," Achmad Yani told reporters.
