Ship Overturned In The British Strait, 12 Migrants Killed

JAKARTA - A total of 12 migrants died after their ship capsized on its way across the British Strait to England.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, Tuesday, September 3, said rescue operations were underway to find people who were still missing.

The handling of illegal immigration has become a priority for the British and French governments. More than 2,000 people have arrived in the UK on small ships over the past seven days, according to British government data.

Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged to work closely together to dismantle migrant smuggling routes.

The British Strait is one of the busiest shipping lines in the world and the current is strong, so crossings with small ships are dangerous.

In August, two people were found dead after a ship carrying migrants trying to cross the British Strait had an accident.
