Toni Tamsil Sentenced To 3 Years And Fined Rp 5,000 In Timah Case, Here's The AGO's Response

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has opened its voice regarding the defendant Toni Tamsil alias Akhi who was sentenced to 3 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 5,000 related to the alleged corruption case of tin commodity trading in the mining business permit (IUP) area of PT Timah Tbk in 2015-2022.

said the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Harli Siregar, stated that he was still considering determining the next steps against the three-year prison sentence handed down to the defendant in the tin trading system corruption case, Toni Tamsil.

"The prosecutor (the prosecutor) is still using his thoughts on the decision within seven days of the verdict according to the procedural law," said Harli, Tuesday, September 3.

Harli ensured that the Prosecutor's Office would report further if the Public Prosecutor had taken a stand whether to file an appeal or not.

It is known that Toni Tamsil alias Akhi, who was accused of obstruction of justice or obstruction to the investigation into the alleged corruption case of tin trading in the PT Timah Tbk Mining Business Permit (IUP) area from 2015 to 2022, has undergone a verdict hearing on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

The crime was handed down because Toni had been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a crime by deliberately obstructing the investigation of a corruption case.

Another decision handed down is to determine that the detention period that the defendant has served is deducted entirely from the sentence imposed, determine the defendant remains detained, and impose it on the defendant to pay the court fee of Rp. 5,000.

The three-year prison sentence is lighter than the prosecutor's demand that Toni be sentenced to three years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp. 200 thousand provided that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for three months.

In addition, the Public Prosecutor also demanded that the panel of judges charge the defendant a court fee of Rp. 10,000.

For information, Toni is the younger brother of Tamron Tansil alias Aon as a beneficial owner or owner of the benefits of CV Venus Inti Perkasa (VIP) who is also a suspect in this tin corruption case.
