Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy stated that the weather modification operation in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) will continue until 12 September 2024. “ As of September, the rain in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) and around IKN is still high, so the possibility of landslides and floods is still high. For this reason, the operation to modify the weather by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) will continue until September 12 so that physical development targets can be achieved, ” Muhadjir said at a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Office, Jakarta, Antara, Monday, September 2. The weather modification operation carried out with the BNPB and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) aims to avoid the possibility of development in IKN being hampered due to weather disturbances. "We want to prevent possible disaster risks, including those in the IKN area, because if that happens it will hinder and interfere with the targets that have been set, including to extend and continue the construction of the airport, which is now 1,300 meters and less than 1,000 meters away," he said. Meanwhile, the Head of BNPB Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto said that the weather modification operation was carried out at the request of regional heads and BMKG. " “ We are holding this weather modification operation at the request of the local government and on the recommendation of the BMKG, as a way to reduce disaster risk and disaster impact, if the short language is reducing, diverting, or bringing rain,” he explained. He explained that the weather modification operation was carried out to be diverted to several other areas to prevent floods and landslides.

" “ In the East Kalimantan region there is still a lot of rain, at some points there are also floods and landslides, so we are mobilizing weather modification operations so that rain does not come heavily or be diverted to other places so that places that are feared that floods and landslides can occur can be controlled," he said.
