KPU Says There Are 2 Alternatives If The Single Candidate Loses In The 2024 Pilkada

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Technical Division, Idham Holik, said that when the single candidate lost, according to Article 54 D paragraph 3 there was a re- Pilkada that could be held in the following year or according to a schedule of once every five years.

"If it is held in the following year, it means that the election will be held in November 2025," said Idham as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, September 1.

Idham said that according to the rules, there are only candidates in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections that must obtain more than 50 percent of the votes are valid, and if not, the area will be led by the acting.

"If the election results are later, where the sole candidate does not get more than 50 percent of the votes, then the government assigns the acting governor, regent, or mayor," he said.

Idham explained that according to the listed rules, there were two alternatives when single candidates could not get more than 50 percent of the valid votes.

According to him, the two alternatives are holding a re-cash in the following year, and the policy could also be implemented according to the schedule contained in the legislation in accordance with Article 3 paragraph 1 of Law number 8 of 2015 where the election is held every five years.

"This means that there are two alternatives to the year the election is repeated in the following year, or carried out according to the schedule contained in the legislation," he said.

He added that until the last date of registration, namely on August 29, 2024, there were 43 single candidates consisting of one province, five cities, and 37 districts.

The following is a list of regions with one candidate pair in the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada;

The provincial elections from 37 regions that held the regional elections were one province with one single candidate, namely in West Papua.

Meanwhile, district or city elections that have only candidates are in Aceh Province, namely North Aceh Regency, and Aceh Taming. Provinces of North Sumatra, Central Tapanuli, Asahan, Pakpak Bharat, Serdang Berdagai, North Labuhanbatu, and North Nias Regencies.

Furthermore, West Sumatra Province, Dharmasraya Regency, Jambi Province is in Batanghari Regency. South Sumatra Province in Ogan Ilir Regency, and Empat Lawang.

Bengkulu Province is located in North Bengkulu Regency. Lampung Province is located in three districts, namely West Lampung, East Lampung, and West Tulang Bawang.

Furthermore, the Provinces of the Bangka Belitung Islands are in two regencies and one city, namely Bangka, South Bangka, and Pangkal Pinang City. Riau Islands Province is located in Bintan Regency.

Then West Java is in Ciamis Regency. Central Java is in Banyumas, Sukoharjo, and Brebes. East Java Provinces are three districts and two cities are Trenggalek, Ngawi, and Gresik, as well as Pasuruan City, and Surabaya City.

West Kalimantan Province is located in Bengkayang Regency. South Kalimantan Province has only candidates in Tanah Bumbu and Balangan Regencies.

East Kalimantan in Samarinda City. North Kalimantan in Malinau Regency and Tarakan City.

North Sulawesi is located in Siau Islands Regency, and Tagulandang Biaro. South Sulawesi Maros Regency. Southeast Sulawesi West Muna Regency. Gorontalo Province in Puhowato Regency.

Meanwhile, West Sulawesi Province is in Pasangkayu Regency and finally West Papua Province is in Manokwari Regency and Kaimana.
