JAKARTA - Jakarta deputy governor candidate Rano Karno declared his resignation from his position as a member of Commission X of the DPR for the 2019-2024 period.

Rano made this decision after he was promoted by PDIP to accompany Pramono Anung in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada.

"As a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, I have declared my resignation from Commission X," said Rano after undergoing a medical test at Tarakan Hospital, Central Jakarta, Friday, August 30.

The man who is familiarly called 'Doel' explained that his resignation as a member of Commission X of the DPR RI was still in progress. According to him, his resignation as a member of the DPR is a consequence of him running as a candidate for regional head according to the KPU's decision.

The same consequences also apply to his position as a elected member of the DPR for the 2024-2029 period from the Banten III electoral district.

"That's a consequence for me to carry out another task," said Bang Doel.

As previously reported, the General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that the candidates for the DPR, DPRD, and DPD elected in 2024 must resign as legislative candidates if they run in the 2024 Pilkada contestation.

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said the provisions also apply to active DPR members, DPRD and DPP.

"In the Pilkada Law, it is determined that if there are members of the DPR, DPD, or DPRD, both provincial and district/city, they are registered as candidates, then the person concerned must resign from his position," said Hasyim.

"However, for elected candidates who have not been inaugurated, they must be willing to resign as elected candidates for members of the DPR, DPD, or DPRD, either provincial or district/city. So if the status has not been inaugurated as a elected candidate," he continued.

Hasyim said that elected legislative or legislative members must submit a maximum resignation document five days after the determination of the candidate pair.

"Then, the second is the receipt from the authorized official for the submission of the resignation letter. Third, the resignation application certificate as being processed by the authorized official," he explained.
