JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said there had been no meeting regarding the plan to apply the Jabodetabek electric train subsidy tariff (KRL) based on the Population Identification Number (NIK) in 2025.

"I don't know because there has been no meeting regarding that," said the President, giving information after inaugurating the Mother and Child Health Respiration Building of Friendship Hospital, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 30.

When reconfirmed whether the NIK-based KRL tariff plan will be held, the President also admitted that he did not know what the conditions on the ground were, so the plan emerged.

"I don't know yet, I don't know what the field problem is," said the President.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati said that the realization of the implementation of the Jabodetabek KRL subsidy tariff based on NIK would depend heavily on the results of cross-sectoral discussions, public consultations, and responses from various stakeholders.

Adita conveyed this to answer about the certainty of the plan to apply the Jabodetabek KRL subsidy tariff based on NIK in 2025.

"We'll see later, we'll see what the results of the discussion are, need public consultation, see the dynamics, and response from the stakeholder," said Adita at the DPR/MPR/DPD building, Jakarta, Thursday (29/8).

Adita said the discourse on implementing the Jabodetabek KRL subsidy rate based on NIK had actually appeared in 2023. The discourse arose to make public transportation subsidies more targeted.

The discourse on the imposition of subsidies for KRL to be based on a busy NIK has become a topic of conversation on social media in recent times. This stems from the news citing data in Book II of the Financial Note of the 2025 RAPBN from the government which was submitted to the DPR for discussion.

In the document, the PSO train subsidy expenditure budget is set at IDR 4.79 trillion, which is intended to support the improvement of the quality and innovation of economic class services for rail transportation, including the Jabodetabek KRL.

Some of the improvements made, one of which is by changing the subsidy system for next year.
