Alexander Marwata Suggests That Case Prosecution Outside Jakarta Be Submitted To The Prosecutor's Office To Be More Effective

Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Alexander Marwata said that the prosecutor's assignment to his institution to convene outside the city was often ineffective. Therefore Alexander suggested that prosecutions other than Jakarta be handed over to the High Prosecutor's Office.

"We see that now it is not effective, in the future, we, the KPK think that if the trial, for example, goes all the way in the area, why don't we just transfer it to the local prosecutor. From the investigation then we will delegate it to the local High Prosecutor's Office, of course, with the supervision of the KPK," Alexander told reporters quoted on Thursday, August 29.

Alexander explained that this kind of method could reduce costs and time. "You can imagine when the KPK has to handle it, the first day of trial reads the indictment, half an hour is over, returns to Jakarta, right," he said.

"Next week, the exception reading will be like that, after half an hour. Next week there will be another response to the exception. So, a lot of time wasted on the official trip was to the regions," continued Alexander.

He claimed that the suggestion had been discussed with the Attorney General's Office. However, Alexander did not elaborate on the conversation further.

"Well, those are obstacles that we must anticipate related to also regarding the effectiveness, efficiency of the process of handling the trial case itself," he said.

"We have discussed this with the prosecutor's office regarding the possibilities of the KPK cases in the regions which will later be handled by the local prosecutor," concluded Alexander.
