Ternate Ring Road Access Is Broken By Floods

JAKARTA - The Ternate Resort Police (Polres), North Maluku (Malut) stated that the road access connecting Rua and Kastela Villages as well as the Ternate City ring road was cut off due to the flash flood on Sunday morning.

"Vehicles cannot pass and must turn back. Not only the connecting access road, the remaining flash flood material is still being cleaned by related parties using heavy equipment," said Head of Public Relations of the Ternate Police, AKP Umar Kombong, Sunday, August 25.

He said joint officers were currently at the location and were in the process of being evacuated. "Currently officers in the intensive field are evacuating," said Umar Kombong.

The main road access for Rua Kota Ternate was cut off due to flash floods that occurred early this morning and prevented some residents from saving themselves.

As is known, heavy rains that occurred in Ternate City caused flash floods to hit Rua Village, Ternate Island District, on Sunday.

Heavy rain has fallen since Saturday night, August 24. Based on information received at 03.30 WIT, floods hit the Rua area.

Previously, the Head of Operations and Alert for the Search for Ternate Basarnas, Bram Madya, who was contacted, said that his party had deployed personnel together with the community to search for victims of the flash flood.

In fact, said Bram, due to the flash flood, as many as 10 residents were reported to have died and one resident was still in the process of being searched or evacuated, due to being buried by flood material.

According to him, there were flood victims who were reported dead and currently being identified, while three residents who were injured due to the flash flood had been taken to Chasan Boesoerie Hospital and RST for medical treatment.

Currently, Ternate Basarnas personnel, members of the TNI/Polri, BPBD and the intensive community are searching for residents who are victims of the flash flood.
