The Constitutional Court's Decision Becomes A Heavy Test On KIM Plus's Solidity

JAKARTA - Indo Strategic Executive Director Ahmad Khoirul Umam considers that the issuance of Constitutional Court Decisions Number 60 and 70 of 2024 is a tough test for the solidity of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) Plus.

According to him, the DPR Plenary Meeting quorum was not achieved regarding the ratification of the revision of the Pilkada Law, although the KIM Plus factions control the majority of the DPR indicating that there is an internal friction or at least a test stone for KIM Plus's solidity.

"Then the quorum was not achieved yesterday because it is indeed a technical matter, for example or is this indeed a test of political faith for KIM Plus, which should all out provide support for the agenda that had previously been set to revise the Pilkada Law," said Umam, Sunday, August 25, 2024.

He emphasized that technically KIM Plus should be able to ratify the revision of the Pilkada Law. Therefore, the failure of the quorum also raises the question, whether there is an intra elite conflict or a kind of debate at the elite level among members of the KIM coalition so that it does not then provide support at the DPR Plenary Meeting.

"The question becomes natural when looking at the timeline. Actually, at 09.30 it was seen whether the quorum was going to be or not, and at that time the number of masses that came was actually not large. I mean, I don't see that this is because of reading or reacting to a large number of people and fear of the emergence of a commotion," he explained.

"I see this more probably the day before or the night or in the morning there is an awareness that this could be dangerous, it will cause more harm and will be at risk politically. So, if we look at Gerindra as the ruling party, it also happens that his party's frontman, who is often considered the most influential in gathering KIM's political power. It is not impossible that there will also be direction from Pak Prabowo, "concluded Umam.
