International Crime Court Prosecutor Urges Judges Not To Postpone Netanyahu's Arrest

JAKARTA - Attorney for the International Crime Court (ICC) on Friday, August 23, urged judges to immediately decide on a warrant for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant.

They also emphasize that they have jurisdictions to investigate Israeli citizens.

In the ICC document announced on Friday, Prosecutor Karim Khan urged judges considering arrest warrants to immediately issue the warrant.

"Any delay that cannot be justified in this process harms the rights of the victims," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, August 24.

He stressed that the ICC has jurisdiction over Israeli citizens who committed crimes and atrocities in the Palestinian Territories and asked judges to reject lawsuits filed by a number of countries and other parties.

"It is law that the Court has jurisdiction in this situation," the document wrote, rejecting legal arguments based on the terms of the Oslo Agreement and Israel's statement that it was conducting its own investigation into alleged war crimes.

Israel continues to commit genocide in the war-torn Gaza Strip, ignoring all decisions of the International Court (ICJ) in its legally binding decision ordering Israel to halt their military offensive in Rafah, which violates its obligations under the Genocide Convention.

Israel has been attacking Gaza since October 7 last year which left at least 40,265 Palestinians dead and more than 93,144 injured.

At least 10,000 people are also unknown. They are thought to have died buried in the rubble throughout the Gaza Strip.

International organizations and Palestinians say the majority of victims are women and children.

Israel's aggression also forced nearly two million people from across the Gaza Strip to flee, with most of them forced off the densely populated southern Rafah City and near the border with Egypt.

It said the forced transfer had become the largest mass exodus of Palestine since the 1948 Nakba incident.
