KY Asks Mass Media To Guard Judges' Integrity

The Judicial Commission (KY) has asked the mass media to continue to oversee the enforcement of judge integrity in the midst of many legal and judicial issues that attract public attention.

In the midst of the many public responses to the judge's decision which was deemed less prioritizing justice, legal certainty, and benefit, Deputy Chairperson of KY Siti Nurdjanah said that her party was trying to restore public trust in the judiciary.

"KY expresses his appreciation to the press for helping in realizing the independence of the justice system," said Nurdjanah when opening a discussion entitled Reflection on Enforcement of Judges Integrity for Clean Justice in Purwokerto, Central Java, quoted from Antara, Saturday, August 24.

For this reason, KY continues to strengthen cooperation with the mass media in an effort to maintain and uphold the integrity of judges, which is expected to increase public understanding of KY's efforts in realizing clean justice.

From January to July 2024, KY recorded 573 public reports related to alleged violations of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct of Judges (KEPPH) and 400 copies.

"This reflects that the public's hope for KY is to create judges with integrity for clean justice," he said.

Therefore, he said, the authority of KY needs to be supported by all elements, including the mass media in order to create positive synergies according to their respective responsibilities.

Through coverage and news, Nurdjanah said that the mass media can help KY's duties as well as become a bridge between KY and the public. In fact, the mass media can participate in controlling and influencing the power of justice.

Entering the 19th year, according to him, KY needs to reflect on the enforcement of the integrity of the judges that have been carried out. This is because the integrity of judges continues to be in the public spotlight, especially regarding the judges' decisions that cause controversy.

"KY understands the reaction or turmoil of the community, but the public needs to understand the limits of KY's authority which focuses on enforcing the judge's code of ethics," said Nurdjanah.

Nevertheless, Nurdjanah emphasized that KY will continue to pay attention in accordance with the authority given by the constitution.

He also hopes that the synergy and collaboration between KY and the mass media can be more intense because KY and the mass media need each other, so they must work together to maintain and uphold the integrity of judges.

"So far, there has been a synergy that has been built between KY and the mass media, that's good, now we have fixed it again," he said.
