JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized that he would not issue a Perppu related to the 2024 Pilkada. Even the president said, "don't think about it."

"Nothing, I don't have any thoughts," said Jokowi after attending the PAN Congress at the Kempinski Indonesian Hotel, Jakarta, Friday, August 23.

Jokowi was also reluctant to comment on the revision of the Pilkada Law which was canceled by the DPR. According to him, the ratification of the law is the legislative realm.

"That's the legislative area, the DPR area," he said.

Nevertheless, Jokowi appreciated the elements of society who demonstrated about yesterday's Pilkada Bill. He said, conveying aspirations is part of democracy.

"Good, that's good. It conveys the aspirations of the people, very good," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Supratman Andi Agtas, said that the narrative that said the government or president would issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of the Pilkada Law (Perppu) after the revision of the Pilkada Law was canceled by the DPR, seemed excessive.

The reason, according to him, there has been no effort from the government to issue the Pilkada Perppu so far. This Gerindra Party politician admitted that he had just heard about the government's discourse to issue a Perppu as a result of the Pilkada Bill being canceled.

"This is just too dramatic. So, one, until today I have not heard at all about it (Perppu)," said Supratman.
