Action Against The Pilkada Bill Infects Victims, 7 Police And 14 Demonstrators Injured

JAKARTA - Demonstrations against the Revision of the Regional Head Election Law (RUU) in front of the DPR/MPR building claimed victims. Based on preliminary data, there were seven police officers and 14 demonstrators who were injured.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi said seven policemen who were victims suffered several injuries, ranging from bruises to torn parts of their bodies.

"The data is there are 7 yes, there are injuries on the temples, some are in the stomach, some are torn in the head, torn in the leg, some are swollen in the knee, some are bruised in the knee, pinned by the gate," Ade told reporters Friday, August 23.

Currently, the police officer who suffered the injury has received medical treatment.

Meanwhile, 14 victims of the demonstrators were recorded. However, the number does not rule out the possibility that it will increase along with the existing data changes.

"Based on our data at the same time, yes, it is still developing, there are 14," said Ade.

It was not clearly stated what injuries they suffered.

However, when referring to the statement of a member of Commission VII DPR PDIP faction, Adian Napitupulu, it was said that one demonstrator had a broken nose.

The demonstration was triggered by the DPR which revised the Law on Regional Head Elections which had been marked by chaos.

The crowd broke into the fence of the DPR/MPR Building. In fact, crossed out the walls of the representative people's building with swearing.

The pressure from the mass demonstration that had heated up was eased along with a statement from the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who said that the ratification of the revision of the Pilkada Law to become a law was canceled. Registration of candidates for regional elections continues to use the reference of the Constitutional Court's decision.

"The ratification of the revision of the Pilkada Law which is planned to be held today on August 22, has been canceled," said Dasco via the X account @bang_dasco, Thursday, August 22.

"Therefore, at the time of registration for the Pilkada on August 27, what will take effect is the Constitutional Court's judicial review decision to grant the Labor Party and Gelora Party claims," he continued.
