KPU Ensures Registration For Paslon Pilkada Guided To The Constitutional Court's Decision

The KPU ensures that the registration of candidate pairs for regional heads in the 2024 Pilkada will be guided by KPU regulations (PKPU) which have been equipped with new provisions in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which was read out on Tuesday (20/8).

"What is certain is that later on August 27' 29, when registration of regional head candidates in all regions in Indonesia, they will follow the rules or PKPUs in which the articles or decisions of the Constitutional Court have been included," said KPU chairman Mochammad Afifuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 22.

Afif also ensured that the Constitutional Court's decision adopted into the PKPU revised draft was not only about the terms of the candidate's age and the nomination threshold, but also included campaign rules at universities which were also changed by the Constitutional Court.

"It's also for sure we have to follow it, we treat it the same and then we will immediately adopt it and put it in our campaign settings," he said.

Afifuddin explained that the KPU would follow up on the Constitutional Court's decision in accordance with the orderly procedures, namely by consulting with the DPR.

According to him, the KPU learns from experience so as not to get sanctions due to wrong procedures in implementing the Constitutional Court's decision.

"Of course we learn from experience, what we have done and are deemed untrue, we are fixing it and that is what makes us take steps, our Constitutional Court decision does not follow up, the procedural steps we have to take, we will do it," he said.

Afif said that his party would coordinate and communicate to hasten discussions with Commission II of the DPR.

According to him, the hearing (RDP) will be held on Monday (26/8), one day before the registration of regional head candidates is opened.

"Consultation in the nature of the RDP is Monday. We have conveyed earlier and have coordinated for the materials that we have submitted in draft and so on," said Afif.

Previously, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, confirmed that the ratification of the Pilkada Bill was canceled. For this reason, he ensured that the registration of regional head candidates on August 27, 2024, would apply the decision of the Constitutional Court.

"What will take effect is the decision of the Constitutional Court's JR (judicial review) to grant the Labor Party and Gelora Party claims," Dasco said in the official social media account X which was uploaded on Thursday.
