Megawati: Why Am I Told To Support Anies? Want To Not Listen?

PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri questioned the reasons related to her being asked to carry Anies Baswedan in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada.

This was conveyed by Megawati after reading the names of candidates for regional heads promoted by the second batch of PDI-P at the PDI-P DPP office, Jakarta.

Initially, he said that there were many people who talked about who would be supported by the PDI-P in the Jakarta Pilkada.

Megawati also admitted that she was surprised that a group of people wearing red-black clothes put up banners to support Anies.

"'I was surprised in front of it, yes, there was a red and black shirt, but put up the banner to tell Mr. Anies to work together, right? Yes, after all, who didn't see it? I just saw it," said Megawati.

He then asked the chairman of the PDI-P DPP for Honorary Affairs Komarudin Watubun.

"I asked the Komar, what is the task force? How come it's called the black task force, right?" asked Megawati to Komarudin.

Komarudin also explained that the task force wanted to ask Megawati to support Anies in the Jakarta Pilkada.

Megawati said, "Eh, I said it's okay, why am I being told to support Mr. Anies?"

Megawati also asked whether the former governor of DKI Jakarta would join as a party cadre bearing the symbol of a white-nosed bull.

"He's right if you want to be with the PDI-P? If you want the PDI-P, don't be like that, okay? Want it or not?" said the fifth president of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Yes, yes," he added, followed by applause from the cadres present.

In addition, he also admitted that he was confused if someone wanted to get support in an easy way because his party currently needed support to run in the Jakarta Pilkada.

"Where did you go, yesterday afternoon huh? Well, yes, don't do that," he concluded.

Previously, the Chairperson of the PDI-P DPP for Honorary Affairs, Komarudin Watubun, said that Anies Baswedan had the opportunity to be promoted in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada if he became a PDI-P cadre.

The possibility to bring Anies open after the Constitutional Court (MK) changed the pilkada threshold which allowed the PDI-P to carry its own candidate pair.

"What we hope is that it must become a party cadre," said Komarudin at the PDIP DPP office, Jakarta, Tuesday.

He emphasized that basically the PDI-P will prioritize its own cadres first to be promoted in the regional elections.

The reason is, the PDI-P has a number of potential cadres such as former DKI Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat.

Next, there are also potential members of the DPR for the Jakarta electoral district, namely Eriko Sotarduga and Masinton Pasaribu.

"We still have cadres, there is Ahok, there is Djarot, there is Eriko, there is Masinton. 'We all have party cadres. We just need to see who is assigned, the General Chairperson is assigned to be elected by the people of DKI Jakarta," said Komarudin.

In addition, according to him, the authority to decide the candidate for regional head is in the hands of the General Chairperson of the PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"The prerogative is speaking. So, you don't have to be afraid. The PDI-P will definitely come in time, the PDI-P will propose a candidate," he said.
