Chaotic, Central Java DPRD Office Fence In Semarang Successfully Broken By Students

SEMARANG Not only in Jakarta, but there was a riot in front of the DPR MPR RI building, Thursday, August 22, 2024. Students from various universities who are members of BEM also did the same thing at the Central Java Provincial DPRD Building.

The riots began when a group of students headed to the back door of the Central Java Provincial DPRD building in the Taman Indonesia Kaya area. Even though according to the plan, the action was held in front of the DPRD Building on Jalan Pahlawan, and the negotiator was on standby in front of the fence.

Officers from the Sat Samapta Polrestabes Semarang then diverted the security behind the Propinsi DPRD building. Officers tried to prevent the masses from destroying and tearing down the back gate, but at around 12.15 WIB the gates were torn down by protesters.

Persuasive appeals that were continuously conveyed by police officers so that the masses calmed down and dispersed the action were ignored. Until finally the masses who continued to push their way into the yard of the Semarang City DRPD building were driven away by officers using water canon sprays and tear gas.

The action succeeded in dispersing the masses who ran towards the fountain of Jalan Pahlawan. Officers then stood guard at the back gate to anticipate the masses who returned to provocation.

Head of Public Relations of the Jatent Police, Kombes Pol Artanto, said that the actions taken by the officers were in accordance with Perkap Number 1 of 2009 concerning the Use of Police Forces and Actions.

He regretted that the action of expressing opinions held by the students was chaotic after the masses insisted on entering the courtyard of the Propinsi DPRD building and laying down the gate fence.

"It is very unfortunate that the demonstration ended in chaos. However, we are grateful that no casualties were involved in the incident," said the Head of Public Relations.
